Private Notes
- We have a plan. Will it work? Who knows. The plan changes every couple femtoseconds. The gist is that Calanthia will start near the city wall to take out a couple catapults around the same time that the rest of us begin our attack on the siege tower. Kemurial gives her his fire elemental brazier which she can use to summon a fire elemental. All of us except Calanthia will go through the tunnels, summon an air elemental, water elemental, and the warriors from the Horn of Valhalla. While doing that, Freya will cast Shadow Portal to get us into position. Just before she finishes casting the Shadow Portal, Friar Karl will cast Beacon of Hope on us and wish us well as he stays back. Freya, Kemurial and Rory will drink a Potion of Speed before heading into battle. Once through the portal, we'll close it up behind us, leaving Friar Karl behind. Freya will get to work setting the three northern trebuchets alight with Wall of Fire. Once Calanthia sees that, she'll start working on the southern two catapults and will try to make her way to the central ballista if able. Kemurial will send his summons wherever needed, and he'll cast a Sleet Storm spell on or near the large siege tower such that it hits it and hopefully makes it difficult for our enemies to reach us.
- Rory gives Freya and Calanthia a set of Psi Lenses. We now all have a pair. We'll drop ours at the tunnel's exit. Calanthia's other lens will be with Friar Karl so she can escape with us.
- We make our way through the secret tunnel and get into position. Kemurial summons all his creatures. Just as Freya finishes casting her Shadow Portal, Rory and Kemurial quaff a Potion of Speed and Friar Karl casts Beacon of Hope. We walk through the portal. There's an enemy just outside the portal location. It's fightin' time. INITIATIVE!!!

Round 1
- Freya - Runs to the north corner of the siege tower and casts an upcasted Wall of Fire at 5th Level on the trebuchets to set them aflame. She does enough damage to take out some of the Beastman Ungors, and she does some good damage to a couple Death Knight Aspirants. Nice.
- Kemurial - Casts Sleet Storm near the siege tower so that it's partially on it and also hopefully blocks line of sight to us from the central ballista. Sends air elemental a little northward to engage the cultists surrounding the tower. It hits one of them, killing them. Its second attack hits another nearby one, dropping it as well. He tells one of the Valhalla warriors to stay with Rory and sends the others northward. He then sicks his wolf on the tower itself. It attacks the tower and successfully hits it with Radiant damage. However, when it hit the siege tower, the tower's flames burst to life more intensely, and the skull's eyes begin to glow. It begins to hum as it turns to face us. From the tower comes blasting a 60' flamethrower line of fire. Both Kemurial and his wolf make their save for half. Kemurial then makes his Hasted attack on the tower and hits it, but doesn't seem to do much to it. Interesting.
- Calanthia - Moves up to the first southern catapult and lights it and its rope on fire. She then moves a bit further and jumps away. Then she uses her Hasted action to Dash even further.
- Rory - Attacks the nearby Beastman Ungor, takes it out, moves to the north side of the tower, attacks it, crits it, but the tower is unaffected. Interesting. Rory then uses his Hasted action to use his Fire Breath Weapon on a couple nearby cultists and takes them out. Rory yells that the tower seems unaffected by his attacks.
- Cultists - One moves up to Rory and attacks, missing. Second attack misses. Another moves up and misses twice. A third moves in to Rory as well, missing twice. The fourth also misses twice. A fifth one moves close, but is unable to get within range.

Round 2
- At the end of the previous round, tons more enemies join in. Additionally, a previously hidden mouth in the tower's skull opens and reveals a large cannon. It takes aim at Rory and fires. It would've hit, but Rory uses his one and only Shield spell to prevent it.
- Freya - Moves toward the northern side of the tower and casts a Fireball east of the tower near the third trebuchet, catching a couple enemies and the trebuchet in it. Moves back behind the tower. Converts Pact Magic to spell slots.
- Kemurial - Has a warrior attack some of the enemies to the south, hitting them and doing some damage. A second one does the same. The other two warriors assist Rory north of the tower, killing two of the cultists. The air elemental flies up and over the cultists around Rory and lands on top of one of them and uses Whirlwind. They save, but still die. Nice! Kemurial himself rides his wolf toward the southern side of the tower and casts a Lightning Bolt directly southward, getting as many of the enemies in the bolt as possible. Lots of damage done! He dismounts his wolf. The wolf then attacks the tower itself, hitting it and doing some Radiant damage, which seems to affect the tower. The Lightning Bolt was Quickened, so he also casts Sacred Weapon and changes its damage type to Radiant, then attacks the tower, hitting it for some more Radiant damage. His second attack also hits for more Radiant damage to the tower. His Hasted attacks misses.
- Calanthia - Moves up to the second catapult, pours oil on it and its rope, then lights it up. Jumps 30' away. Bonus action to move again.
- Rory - Bonus Action to sprout wings, flies up to meet the skull's gaze using both his movement and Hasted movement, then studies the skull, but can't find anything inside the skull to grab onto. He positions himself to break line of sight with most enemies.
- Beastman Ungors - Attacks warriors, misses and hits.
- Berserkers - Attacks warriors, hitting one.
- Beastman Ungors - Moves around the Wall of Fire and yells something in Abyssal, and another guy moves around the Wall of Fire.
- Berserker - Moves up to the warrior group.
- Death Knight Aspirant - Moves on his horse to the north side of the tower, this draws an Opportunity Attack from the air elemental, but it misses. It also draws one from one of the warriors, but it also misses. It makes it all the way to the west side of the tower. Casts Hellfire Orb near Freya, Kemurial and Kemurial's wolf. Kemurial wants to Counterspell it, but it wouldn't work since it's not a spell. Good to know. Tons of fire and Necrotic damage. Freya makes her Save, taking half the damage. Kemurial uses Absorb Elements to absorb some of the Fire damage. They both still end up taking quite a lot of damage. Ouch! We've encountered this before, though. Both of them maintain concentration on their spells. The Death Knight Aspirant uses the rest of his movement to move behind a tree near one of the trebuchets.
- Beastman Ungors - Moves.
- Cultists - Attacks a warrior twice, hitting once.

- Beast Lord - Moves and multiattack on one of the warriors, hitting two of three times.
- Beastman Ungor - Moves and attacks Freya, CRITS her for a little bit of piercing damage and maintains Concentration.
- Berserkers - Moves.
- Beastman Ungors - Moves.
- Death Knight Aspirant - Moves and casts a Hellfire Orb at Freya, Kemurial and his wolf. Kemurial and Freya make their saves, the wolf fails. Freya and Kemurial both maintain their Concentration, and the wolf dies.
- Beast Lord - Moves.
- Beastman Ungor - Attacks warrior, hitting it.
- Death Knight Aspirant - Moves and, you guessed it, Hellfire Orb at Freya and Kemurial. Kemurial makes his save, but Freya fails. Freya uses Absorb Elements to help with the damage some. Both make their Concentration checks.
- Beastman Ungors - Moves.
- Berserker - Moves up to Freya.

- Bray-Shaman - Not sure.

Round 3
- Archmange - Dispel Magic on the Wall of Fire, and is able to dispel it successfully. The archmage is now visible. He moves closer toward the trebuchets and us.
- Freya - Bonus Action to quaff a Potion of Greater Healing for 20 health back thanks to Beacon of Hope. Moves slightly and casts another Wall of Fire, but this time it's a little closer to the river to block off enemies a bit from us. They'll just have to go around it. This, in turn, does cause some damage to the nearby foes, which is always good. Many enemies near the wall fail their saves, which is great for us. She moves toward the river, which provokes, but the Beastman Ungor misses her.
- Kemurial - Has his warriors attack their nearest enemies. The air elemental doesn't get its Whirlwind back, so it just attacks the nearby cultists with Thunderous Slams, hitting it and killing them. Uses his Hasted action to attack the tower, hitting it and doing some decent Radiant damage to it. He then uses Quickened Spell to cast a Fireball on the group of enemies just outside of his Sleet Storm spell. All but two fail their saves. Nice. That kills a few of them, including one of his own warriors, but that's okay. He then flies to Freya and uses Keoghtam's Ointment on her to heal her up a bit. He then uses his movement to hopefully gain some cover near the trees along the river bank.
- Bray-Shaman - Moves.
- Calanthia - Lights the brazier to summon the fire elemental and sends it to destroy the two catapults nearby and instructs it to come to the ballista later if able. Hasted action to Dash. The fire elemental moves to the nearest catapult and engulfs it and nearby enemies in flame, doing damage to all. It then uses a couple of burn attacks on the catapult, hitting once. Its aura also causes more fire damage to all nearby enemies at the end of its turn.
- Rory - Flies down to the archmage and unleashes everything he's got. First attack is a Reckless Brutal Strike, but misses as the archmage uses Shield. Another attack, CRITS, doing lots of damage. Rory tries to use Staggering Smite, but the archmage has Mind Blank on, so he's immune to the Psychic damage, but still needs to make a save or be stunned. Unfortunately he succeeds, so he isn't stunned. He seems to be taking all of it. Hasted attack hits as well. Action Surge! Both of Rory's next attacks hit as well, for lots more damage. Too bad that first one missed because the archmage might've been dead if not for that. We'll see what happens next.
- Enemies - Some move, some hit. I don't really know. I stepped away to get something to eat here. Kemurial and Freya end up taking tons of damage from the Death Knight Aspirants. That's not good. They leave Freya near death and Kemurial badly injured. Freya gets knocked unconscious when a Bray-Shaman casts a Fireball near Freya and Kemurial.

Round 4
- Archmage - Bonus Action Misty Step, then retreats into the tent at the north end of the area.
- Freya - Fails a Death Saving throw.
- Kemurial - Hasted Action to Disengage to the opposite side of Freya, then Quicken Spell 5th Level Cure Wounds to heal himself for 85 HP (!), then scoops Freya up and flies her to beyond the tree line across the river. He then has his Air Elemental fly over and carry her a bit further. He then uses his own Action to feed Freya a Potion of Superior Healing for 40 HP of healing.
- Bray-Shaman - 5th Level Scorching Ray at Rory, four out of five rays hit.
- Calanthia - Freya thinks to Calanthia that we're regrouping across the river to the south of the tunnel exit. She confirms the message. She then has the Fire Elemental Disengage and move through some enemies. When it's done moving, its Fire Aura erupts, hitting a couple nearby enemies. Calanthia moves closer to the ballista at the center of the battlefield using a flask of oil. She then Jumps northwestward to heard toward the rest of us who are regrouping. She uses her Bonus Action to Dash further northwestward.
- Rory - Moves 80 feet toward Freya, Hasted Action to Dash another 80 feet, then uses his Action to feed Freya a Potion of Supreme Healing for 60 HP of healing. Finishes his turn by using his Bonus Action to continue his Rage.
- Enemies - A Death Knight Aspirant casts Dispel Magic on Kemurial. Kemurial loses Beacon of Hope, but keeps everything else, including Mind Blank. One of the Bray-Shamans casts Fireball on Kemurial and luckily rolls terribly on damage. Kemurial saved taking only 10 fire damage on 11d6. Wow! Another Death Knight Aspirant moves up to and attacks Kemurial. One of its attacks would've hit, but Kemurial uses Shield to prevent it. The third Death Knight Aspirant gets his Hellfire Orb back, and uses it promptly on Kemurial. Oof! Luckily Kemurial makes his save and has Resistance to Necrotic damage, so he takes even less. The Air Elemental is also caught up in the orb's blast and makes its save for half damage. Many of the Beastman Ungors continue fetching and using water on the burning trebuchets.

Round 5
- At the start of the round, we can hear the crack of timber as two of the trebuchets collapse.
- Freya - Moves southward down the tree line a bit and casts a new spell, Storm Sphere, on a group of enemies near the river, including one of the Death Knight Aspirants. They all fail their saves, taking some damage. The area persists and is Difficult Terrain. Bonus Action to use the spell's lightning bolt feature to attack the Death Knight inside the sphere, doing some Lightning damage in the process.
- Kemurial - Action to cast Conjure Minor Elementals. Hasted Action to attack the Death Knight Aspirant with his scimitar, hitting it for a ton of damage. The Aspirant makes its save on the Strike of Giants feature, though, so it doesn't fall prone. Bonus Action to cast Healing Word on himself. He has his warriors attack foes near the siege tower. One of them CRITS and takes out a Beastman Ungor! He has his Air Elemental move forward towards him and use Thunderous Slams on the Death Knight Aspirant, but both attacks miss.
- Bray-Shaman - Casts Fireball, catching Kemurial and the Air Elemental in it. Kemurial makes the save for half damage and uses his Reaction for Absorb Elements. He also makes his Concentration check. The Air Elemental fails and dies.
- Calanthia - Uses Sharpshooter to get a -5 Attack penalty to gain +10 damage, and her Hasted attack hits a nearby Berserker for a boatload of damage, taking it out. Bonus action to stealth again. Moves across the path toward Freya. Readies an attack for the next time anyone does anything. She has her Fire Elemental to move to the other catapult in the south, doing damage to enemies in its wake, then it attacks the catapult twice, hitting once for max damage! It's flame aura erupts for some more damage to nearby foes and things.
- Rory - Moves up to the Death Knight Aspirant near Kemurial, triggering Calanthia's held action. She fires and hits, dealing massive damage, which is enough to kill it. Nice! Now that it's dead, Rory turns and heads inside Freya's sphere and takes swings at the Death Knight Aspirant inside it. Three attacks and a Staggering Smite later and it's dead. Only one Death Knight Aspirant remains. Rory has just enough movement to get out of the sphere's effects.
- Enemies - A Bray-Shaman takes five Scorching Ray shots at Kemurial and misses all of them! One of the Berserkers takes out one of Kemurial's warriors. Only one of his warriors remain. The remaining warrior gets hit tons of times and is taken out as well. The last Death Knight Aspirant rides up to Rory and makes three Dread Blade attacks, hitting him once. It then Disengages, but since Rory has Sentinel, Rory gets an Opportunity Attack, hitting it and causing it to lose its movement.

Round 6
- The siege tower bends backwards and springs forward, chucking a barrel near Kemurial and Rory. The barrel explodes into a poisonous cloud, doing damage to Kemurial and Rory. Kemurial saves for half, Rory fails and still takes half as he's Raging.
- Freya - Bonus Action to use her Storm Sphere's lightning ability on the Death Knight Aspirant, hitting it. Action to cast Fireball on a group of enemies in the river southeast of her Storm Sphere. She ends her turn moving further back into the woods.
- Kemurial - Ignores the Beastman Ungor right next to him and moves up to the Death Knight Aspirant. The Opportunity Attack misses. Kemurial attacks the Death Knight Aspirant with his scimitar and hits for a ton of damage. Second attack misses. Hasted attack hits doing massive damage as well, taking out the last reamining Death Knight Aspirant! Bonus Action to cast Healing Word on Rory for 37 HP of healing.
- Bray-Shaman - Moves up a bit and fires three Scorching Rays at Rory, hitting twice.
- Calanthia - Attacks a Beastlord, missing, even with Luck. Oof. Bonus Action to hide. Moves northward to near Kemurial, staying in the trees. Readies an attack to fire if anyone does anything. Fire Elemental moves toward the ballista, catching as many enemies in its path as possible. Its fire aura pulses for max damage. Nice! We kinda retconned a bit for Opportunity Attacks that weren't accounted for and it takes enough damage to be taken out.
- Rory - Picks his nose and moves up to the nearby Beastman Ungor, triggering Calanthia's Readied attack at the Bray-Shaman, dealing MASSIVE damage to it. Rory attacks the Beastman Ungor, killing it. He then moves up to the Bray-Shaman, attacks it and finishes it off. Hasted Attack to throw his Javelin of Lightning at the tower to see if Lightning damage does anything to it, to no avail. It's impervious to Lightning as well. Good to know. He finishes his turn by moving up to a nearby Beastlord and uses his Bonus action to attack it, missing.
- Enemies - Things happened. Rory took some attacks for little damage.

Round 7
- Freya - Bonus Action to use the Storm Sphere's Lightning ability on a nearby Beastlord, hitting it. Moves a bit northward into better cover. Action to cast a 5th Level Fireball near Rory, catching him in it, but that's fine. Rory can take it. She catches numerous enemies, though. Rory fails his save but is still able to take it easily. Many of the enemies caught in it die. Nice!
- Kemurial - Moves a bit and then casts a Fireball just east of Rory, catching only enemies in it. Woohoo! This kills over half of the ones caught in it. Nice! He then uses Celestial Revelation to fly a bit further toward the river 15 feet up in the air.
- Bray-Shaman - Casts five Scorching Rays at Rory, hitting once.
- Calanthia - Attacks the Beastlord standing next to Rory for the extra Sneak Attack damage, but misses unfortunately. Bonus Action to hide. Readies Action to attack if anyone does anything.
- Rory - Picks his nose to trigger Calanthia's Readied action. She fires and hits the Bray-Shaman near Rory, doing massive damage to it. Rory misses his first attack on the Beastlord, but CRITS the second time. The Hasted Attack also hits, and the Staggering Smite Bonus Action kills it. Rory moves up to the nearest Bray-Shaman.
- Enemies - Moved around and did stuff. Two of them hit Rory.

Round 8
- Freya - Pokes her head out of the forest enough to see to cast a Fireball near Rory, just missing Rory with it. Lots of enemies affected and some are nearly killed outright. Nice!
- Kemurial - Charges the tower to finally attack it once more! He does Radiant damage himself, but his Conjure MInor Elementals spell does Cold damage this time. Cold has no effect on the tower. His second attack he uses Acid damage with the elementals. Acid has no effect either. Bonus Action Divine Smite for some Radiant damage, which we know works. He tries to stay out of view of the tower itself as much as possible.
- Bray-Shaman - Three Pact Axe attacks at Rory, two of which hit. These guys do massive melee damage. Ouch!
- Calanthia - Fires at the Bray-Shaman near Rory. Bonus Action stealth. Readies an attack.
- Rory - Continues to pick his nose to trigger Calanthia's Readied attack. Her attack hits, doing yet more damage. Rory finishes off the Bray-Shaman with one swing, then heads southward toward Kemurial and the tower, stopping to attack a Beastlord. One attack hits and his Hasted attack misses. But because Greatswords have Graze, he still takes 6 Slashing damage, which actually ends up killing him!
- Enemies - Moved, shot, swung, etc. Nothing crazy happened this turn.

Round 9
- Freya - Drops concentration on Storm Sphere to cast Evard's Black Tentacles. It catches several of the enemies approaching from the south in it, doing a little bit of damage, but more importantly it slows them down. The ones who failed their saves are also Restrained. At the end of Freya's turn, Kemurial and Rory hear Calanthia yelling "ACTIVATE THEM NOW! RETURN! RETURN!".
- Kemurial - Glances around and makes eye contact with Rory. He gives Rory a signal that he's using his Psi Lenses to retreat. He uses his Hasted attack to try one final attack on the tower, but it misses. Ah well.
- Calanthia - Fires at an enemy using Hasted attack, and kills it. Yells at Rory to use his Psi Lenses, then uses Action to use her own Psi Lenses to retreat.
- Rory - Makes a couple last attacks at easy targets using his Hasted and Bonus actions. Kills both, then activates his lens. Once back at the tunnel, Rory picks up the other lens before making his retreat into the tunnel.
- We all run into the tunnel and collapse it behind us.
- Combat over.

- We make it back to the city and discuss our successes and failures. We took out at least two trebuchets, did great damage to other siege weapons, and dispatched a lot of their forces. We were, however, unsuccessful at our main objective, which was to take out the siege tower.
- We're back on the wall admiring the job mostly well done.
- We see a party of enemy cavalry marching through the field toward the walls. On a huge horrifying black horse is a very much souped up Death Knight looking guy. He says that his name is Arek Daemonclaw, and this city will fall. Doesn't sound good! He says that Tzeentch will conquer the world. Not if we can help it! Surrounding generals of the army are nearby, including brutes of Khorne, Nurgle guys, more Tzeentch guys. There are priests as well. One of the wizards with Erik is just like one of the wizards that Rory almost killed earlier. So much alike, actually, that he might as well be his twin. These are two albino-looking brothers robed in striking colors, but they contradict each other. One brother is black with red trim, and the other wears white with gold trim. The wizard Rory fought was likely the one wearing black and red. But he seems to be back at full health and has since changed robes.
- Arek Daemonclaw and his entourage turn and head back out into the armies of Chaos. At this point, it has been several minutes (15-20) since we got back. In that time, the armies have shifted and thousands of reinforcements have moved in.
