- As we finish the previous encounter, doors opposite the chasm open with a slam. Only Xaphan can see it from here, but we can all hear it. We hear many feet clattering. From past it, we hear a deep voice that says "The Great Ulfe will suffer no intruders. CHARGE!" We barely have time to move. INITIATIVE!!!

- Orcs - Runs forward and says "They's on the other side of the bridge scatterin' like roaches!" Throws a Javelin at Syntax and misses. Another does the same thing and misses.
- Xaphan - Healing Hands on himself. Bonus Action Healing Word on himself.
- Orcs - Throws Javelin at Syntax and misses.
- Old Yarrack - Unsure, can't see.
- Syntax - Steps up, sees an orc, casts Eldritch Blast and misses, and moves back around the corner out of line of sight.
- Dire Wolf - Unsure, can't see.
- Jafar - Moves up to the bridge and attempts to cut it back down, right after having tied it back up in the last encounter. He casts Fire Bolt at it, and hits it. It scorches the now-frayed rope, but it's still intact. Looks like it'll break soon. Moves back into the northern secret passage for cover.

- Kailen - Moves up to the bridge. When she does, two javelins come flying at her, both missing. Fires her shortbow, hits, steps back into the southern secret hall for cover.

- Orcs - Unsure, can't see.
- Xaphan - Readies an action to take a shot at any of the orcs that attack one of his allies near the bridge.

- Syntax - Moves forward to see again, triggering some readied actions from the orcs. Here come more javelins! First one misses. Second one misses. Third one misses. Fourth one misses. Fifth one misses. Sixth one hits. Seventh one misses. Eighth one misses. This also triggers Xaphan's Readied action. He hits one of the orcs. Syntax casts Eldritch Blast, hitting and killing an orc.
- Dire Wolf - Unsure, can't see.
- Jafar - Fires another Fire Bolt at the bridge and hits it, doing enough damage to break one side of the bridge's rope. He moves back into the secret tunnel.
- Orcs - Javelin at Syntax misses. Another one hits though.
- Kailen - Moves up and fires her shortbow at an orc and hits. Moves back into the southern secret tunnel.
- Orcs - Javelin at Syntax hits. Another one hits as well. Syntax is near death.
- Great Ulfe - Javelin at Syntax CRITs, knocking him unconscious.

- Orcs - Javelin misses its target.
- Xaphan - Grabs Syntax and attempts to drag him back into a corner for cover. Bonus Action Lay on Hands on Syntax, healing him for 3 HP.
- Orcs - Unsure, can't see.
- Old Yarrack - Unsure, can't see.
- Syntax - Stands up, Bonus Action Potion of Healing. Moves into line of sight with the bridge and casts Eldritch Blast at it, hitting. Moves to the other side of the entrance way.
- Dire Wolf - Unsure, can't see.
- Jafar - Moves out, Fire Bolts the bridge and hits. Down it goes, swinging away from the western platform and impacting the eastern edge as it hands down into the chasm below. As Jafar continues his movement toward the main entrance, two javelins are thrown at him, both missing. Standing next to Syntax, Jafar feeds him a Potion of Healing. Thanks!
- Orcs - Javelin at Jafar, missing. Another flies his way, hitting.
- Kailen - Steps out and fires at an orc, missing. Continues moving through the entrance way, closing the northern door behind her.
- Orcs - Javelin at Jafar misses. Another one at him also misses.

- Orcs - Javelin at Jafar CRITs, knocking him unconscious.

Round 4
- Orcs - Unsure, can't see.
- Xaphan - Moves into the entrance to shut the second door. As he steps into their view, a javelin flies at him, missing. Two more come flying at him, one hits. A fourth one also misses. Xaphan closes the other door, blocking their line of sight to us. Bonus Action Lay on Hands on Jafar for 3 HP of healing.
- Combat over. We each receive 25 xp.

- Jafar stands up and uses a Potion of Healing on himself since who knows what we'll find in the forest as we search for a place to take a long rest.
- Xaphan uses his remaining Lay on Hands to heal himself a bit more.
- We return to the entrance of the cave to discuss our next move. We're going to take a Short Rest to heal up a bit before making our way back to Blasingdell. We look for a place to sit for an hour off the main beaten path. We find a small area with the best cover we can. We aren't very good at finding such things, but we try to make it work nonetheless.
- There's no traffic on the pathway to or from the area. The short rest goes by uneventfully.
- We pack up and head back toward Blasingdell. We make the three-day trek safely and without issue.
- Syntax purchases two Potions of Healing.
- We discuss what kind of hireling or retainer we'd like to have with us. A hireling would cost 2gp per day. A retainer would cost more, but would be more powerful and capable.
- We decide to hire a Bugbear Warden retainer to come with us and assist in our adventure through this orc place. His name is Warden Ghir.
- We make our way back to the Stone Tooth mountain with our new friend in tow.
- We head back to the chimney we found several days ago to see if it's still smoking. It is definitely still smoking.
- Considering we heard the orc make a splash when it fell into the chasm, we figure there's likely water down there. Considering there's a body of water just outside the mountain and chimney, we figure we may as well take a look in case there's another hidden entrance we can use. Warden Ghir leads the way since he's proficient in Survival.
- We descent into a damp valley. The larger lake is surrounded by several smaller lakes. We look for some tracks to see if there are any paths, but Ghir finds nothing but animal tracks. We also don't see anything feeding the lake, nor any streams leading from it.
- We head back to the main cave and try to make our way back to the northern secret tunnel to see what's in there that we haven't yet explored.
- We head inside. On our way in, we see an orc in one of the window slits. A javelin comes flying at Kailen and misses. Here we go again. INITIATIVE!!!

- Syntax - Moves up until he can see the orc in the arrow slit and takes a javelin immediately. Ouch. Syntax then casts Toll the Dead and the orc fails its save.

- Jafar - Dash Action to move up to the other hallway so they hopefully don't have a good angle on him. He drops Prone and crawls a bit further. A javelin comes flying his way, and misses.
- Kailen - Moves up and fires her shortbow, missing, then moves back.
- Orcs - Unsure, can't see.
- Xaphan - Moves back and readies an attack with his bow for the first orc to enter his line of sight.
- Orc Claw of Luthic - Attacks Jafar using its Spiritual Weapon, and misses.

- Ghir - Moves up and takes a shot with his spiked bow at an orc, and hits.
- Syntax - Moves up, Toll the Dead on first orc in a window, it makes it save, Syntax steps back.
- Orc - Javelin at Jafar, misses.

- Jafar - Continues crawling forward.
- Kailen - Steps up, triggering a readied attack from an orc who throws a javelin at her, missing, then she continues forward. Another javelin comes her way and hits. She fires a shot back at them, but misses.
- Orcs - Javelins at Jafar miss.
- Xaphan - Moves up, Toll the Dead, they make their save, moves back.
- Orc Claw of Luthic - Spiritual Weapon on Kailen hits.
- Orcs - Javelin misses someone.
- Ghir - Moves up, Signature Attack misses, drops Prone following Jafar's lead.
- Syntax - Moves up, Toll the Dead, the orc saves, continues moving forward and follows Jafar's lead as well by dropping Prone next to the wall.

- Orc - Javelin at Kailen CRITs. Ouch! She's looking VERY hurt.
- Jafar - Continues crawling, and gets hit with a javelin.
- Kailen - Bonus Action Second Wind for some healing. Drops Prone and crawls forward.
- Orcs - One throws a javelin at Jafar, and even with Disadvantage it CRITs. What the heck, man? Another one throws a javelin and rolls a Nat 1. Balanced.
- Xaphan - Dashes forward.
- Orc Claw of Luthic - Moves up to window, moves Spiritual Weapon up to Kailen and attacks with it, missing.
- Orcs - Javelin at Syntax misses. Unsure of the other.
- Ghir - Crawls forward and uses the Dodge action.
- Syntax - Stands up, moves forward, sees no orcs in the windows, Dash Action to move further, then drops Prone next to Kailen.
- Orc - Javelin at Ghir misses.

- Orc - Javelin at Ghir misses.
- Jafar - Moves up to the main entrance doors up the stairs. As he's moving up to the stairs, a javelin comes his way and misses. He looks for traps and finds none. Bonus Action Potion of Healing.
- Kailen - Crawls forward, Bonus Action Potion of Healing.
- Orcs - One chucks a javelin at Kailen, missing. Another one does the same, also missing.
- Xaphan - Readies Toll the Dead for the next orc to enter his line of sight.
- Orc Claw of Luthic - Moves up to the window and attacks Syntax with a Spiritual Weapon, miraculously missing even with Advantage.
- Orcs - One steps to the window, triggering Xaphan's readied spell, but the orc makes its save for no effect. Throws a javelin back at him, hitting. Another moves up to a window and chucks a javelin at Ghir, hitting.
- Ghir - Crawls away from the window and uses Halting Shot at the orc in the window, but misses.
- Syntax - Toll the Dead at the orc in the window, it fails its save, taking some damage. Syntax then crawls 15' away from the Spiritual Weapon along the western wall.
- Orc - Unsure, can't see.

- Orc - Unsure, can't see.
- Jafar - Checks to see if the doors are locked or barricaded. The door seems barred again.
- Kailen - Crawls up toward the door. A javelin comes her way and misses.
- Orcs - Chucks a javelin at Kailen, misses. Another one comes her way, and also misses. A third javelin comes her way, and it misses as well.
- Xaphan - Stands up and moves toward the doors, drops Prone, Readies Toll the Dead for the first orc he sees.
- Orc Claw of Luthic - Steps up to a window, triggering Xaphan's attack, but it makes its save. Moves Spiritual Weapon into the center of the room.
- Orcs - Javelin at Xaphan misses. Another does the same and also misses.
- Ghir -
- Syntax - Crawls into the narrow nook in the southwest corner of the room and Readies Toll the Dead for the first Orc he sees.
- Orc - Moves to the window, triggering Syntax's reaction. It fails its save on Toll the Dead and dies. First blood in Round 6!

- Orc - Javelin at Syntax misses.
- Jafar - Stands up, uses Tinker's Magic to summon himself a crowbar and hands it to Ghir.
- Kailen - Stands up, moves up to the stairs next to the doorway and takes the Dodge action.
- Orcs - Javelin at Xaphan misses. Another Javelin at Xaphan misses. And another misses him as well.
- Xaphan - Stands up and moves up to the doorway, takes the Dodge Action.
- Orc Claw of Luthic - Moves Spiritual Weapon up to Syntax and CRITs. Ouch again.
- Orcs - Javelin at Syntax misses.
- Ghir - Steps out, gets a javelin thrown at him which misses, then Readies Halting Shot at the Orc Claw of Luthic.
- Syntax - Crawls toward the door, Bonus Action Potion of Healing (which does minimum healing, sheesh), Readies Toll the Dead on the Orc Claw of Luthic.

Round 8
- Orc - Javelin at Syntax hits and does MAX damage. Ouch.
- Jafar - Healing Word on Syntax (thanks!), takes the crowbar from Ghir, tries to pry open the door, but fails.
- Kailen - Takes the crowbar from Jafar and tries to pry open the door, and does! The doors fly open, revealing more orcs. Of course! And they have repaired the bridge. Moves in and takes an opportunity attack from an orc with a greataxe, which misses.
- Orcs - Unsure, can't see, but one chucks a javelin at Syntax, missing.
- Xaphan - Casts Command on an orc, who fails their save. They're commanded to Grovel.
- Orc Claw of Luthic - Moves up to the window, triggering Ghir's and Syntax's Readied actions. Ghir's attack misses. Syntax's Toll the Dead works, though, but it maintains Concentration on the Spiritual Weapon. It attacks Syntax using the Spiritual weapon, which misses. Steps away from the window.
- Orcs - Javelins at Syntax. Both hit and knock him unconscious. Not looking good.
- Ghir - Moves up to Syntax and grapples him, trying to move him to safety. Uses the Dash Action to try to move him further.
- Orc - Falls Prone.
- Syntax - First Death Save is a failure. No successes, one failure.

Round 9
- Orcs - Steps up to Jafar and swings at him, missing. Can't see the others.
- Jafar - Cure Wounds on Syntax for 13 healing, closes the doors with Kailen still beyond them (lol).
- Kailen - Swings with Shatterspike at an orc, and hits. Action Surge for another swing, which also hits.
- Orcs - A spear flies across the bridge and misses Kailen. One opens a secret door and swings a greataxe at her, which hits. Another one hits Kailen as well.
- Xaphan - Bonus Action Healing Word on Syntax. Opens a door, moves to Kailen's side, provoking, which hits. Swings with his longsword, and misses.
- Orc Claw of Luthic - Moves Spiritual Weapon up to Syntax, but can't attack him because he's out of line of sight. Opens the door, triggering an orc's reaction to throw a javelin at Xaphan, which misses. He then casts Command at 2nd Level on Xaphan and Kailen, both of whom fail, and are commanded to drop what they're holding.
- Orcs - One moves up to the southern arrow slit and readies an action. One throws a javelin at Xaphan, missing. Unsure of the others.
- Old Yarrack - Bonus Action Aggressive to move up to the bridge. Throws a javelin at Xaphan, missing.
- Ghir - Flanking with both Xaphan and Kailen, CRITs with a melee attack using his bow. Nice!
- Syntax - Stands up, casts Bless on everyone but himself.

Round 10
- Orcs - One runs up to Ghir and swings with a greataxe and hits for lots of damage. Unsure of the others.
- Jafar - Moves up to the bridge to flank with an orc, Fire Bolt hits Orc Claw of Luthic, and breaks its Concentration on Spiritual Weapon!
- Kailen - As Commanded, she drops her weapon and shield and ends turn.
- Orcs - One moves up to Jafar and attacks him with a greataxe. Another chucks a javelin, missing. Another attacks Xaphan and CRITs him. Another one attacks Kailen and hits, knocking her Unconscious.
- Arthas - Like last time, he must've gotten stuck in the bathroom again and then suddenly shows up in the middle of combat. Moves up and uses Invoke Hell: Grand Strategist to allow Xaphan and one other to move half their movement without provoking. Xaphan tries to reach down during this movement to drag Kailen a bit, and does. Jafar is the second target of this, and also moves out of the way a bit. Jafar triggers a Readied action which causes a javelin to be thrown his way, missing.
- Xaphan - As Commanded, drops his weapon.
- Orc Claw of Luthic - Targets an upcasted Command, targeting both Xaphan and Ghir. They both fail their Wisdom saves and are Commanded to Approach him.
- Orcs - One throws a Javelin at Jafar and hits. Another one does the same thing, but misses. Another one moves up near us all and chucks a Javelin at Ghir, hitting and knocking him Unconscious.
- Old Yarrack - Javelin at Xaphan hits, knocking him Unconscious
- Ghir - First Death Save is a failure. No successes, one failure.
- Syntax - Bonus Action to administer his last Potion of Healing on Xaphan, getting him up. Action to Toll the Dead on a nearly dead orc, and kills it!

Round 11
- Orcs - Greataxe at Jafar hits. Javelin at him misses.
- Jafar - Tries to fly up and away a bit to get a better line of sight to an orc, provoking from an adjacent orc and gets CRIT, knocking him Unconscious int he process. We're not doing well at all.
- Kailen - First Death Save is a success. One success, no failures.
- Orcs - Moves on top of Ghir, swings at Syntax and hits. Syntax maintains Concentration on Bless. Another one throws a javelin at Syntax, hitting and knocking him Unconscious. Another one moves up to Jafar, but doesn't do anything. Another one moves up and out toward Arthas.
- Arthas - Moves up and sees all but Xaphan dead. Xaphan is still Prone, though. Flees.
- Xaphan - As Commanded, approaches the Orc Claw of Luthic and ends turn.
- Orc Claw of Luthic - Bonus Action Spiritual Weapon. 2x Claw attacks at Xaphan, hitting once.
- Orcs - Unsure, can't see.
- Old Yarrack - Javelin at Xaphan misses.
- Ghir - Second Death Save fails. No successes, two failures.
- Syntax - First Death Save is a success. One success, no failures.
- Great Ulfe - Unsure, can't see.

Round 12
- We take a moment to just roll all our Death Saves. Jafar, Kailen and Syntax succeed, but Xaphan and Ghir fail. Xaphan and Ghir are no more.
- There's no way we can win this. It's a TPK apart from Arthas, and the executive decision is made to call it a loss. Combat over.

Kailen, the brave goliath barbarian woman, Jafar, the powerful tiefling artificer, Xaphan, the radiant elf paladin, and Syntax, the calculated warforged warlock, are no more. They've been through much in the short amount of time they knew each other, and perished trying to save a town they'd never before visited. A group of misfits coming together for the greater good of those they meet, albeit with an aim to make a living, of course.
Their stories, as well as Arthas, will survive the encounter to live another day. Kailen, Jafar and Xaphan will have spiritual successors as their players continue to play on. Syntax will not have such a spiritual successor, at least for the moment.
Perhaps he will at a later date when his player feels it's time.
Syntax has logged out for the last time.
